[INTRODUCTION]
Taes: Good morning. My name is Taes and I want to welcome you to today.
Can you wave your hand and say, “Good morning, day.”
Can you put your hands on your heart and say, “Good morning, heart.”
And I want to say good morning to you.
I just love getting to start today with you as we check in, as we wake up our bodies, and as we think about what is in store for us today.
Are you ready to start off our morning? Great!
So let's get started with our activity.
[SOOTHE AND SMOOTH]
Taes: Can you wave your hand and say, “Good morning, day”? Put your hands in your heart and say, “Good morning, heart”. And I want to say good morning to you.
It's just so good to spend some time with you. First thing, when I wake up, so I want to say thank you for being here. Are you ready to get started on your day?
So today I'm going to show you something that you can use, I know I say this a lot, but you can use it when those big feelings come to soothe yourself to start to feel better.
Because you know what? Your body is actually magic and you are magic and you get to control your feelings, and you can do that through moving and using your body in different ways.
So today we're going to do something called the “Soothe and Smooth”.
Can you say that with me? Soothe and smooth. Say it one more time, but do it really funny-like, ready? Soothe and smooth. Good.
So, “Soothe and Smooth” is something you can do and nobody will even know you're doing it. So here's what you're going to do:
Okay. So you're going to put one hand up in the air and have the palm of your hand out. And then on your other hand, can you put your index finger up in the air? And can you take your index finger and put it on the palm of your other hand?
And I want you to color in your hand with your finger. And as you do it, you're going to say, “Soothe and Smooth”. “Soothe and Smooth” going from one side of your hand to the other.
And then you're going to go down each of your fingers, pretend that you're coloring in your hand. And notice how nice it feels when you color in your hand.
This is a really good thing to do to relax yourself when you're having a really big feelings. “Soothe and Smooth”. And keep saying that either out loud or in your head.
And then if you find you're still having big feelings when your whole hand is colored in, can you put the other hand up in the air? And can you color that hand in with your finger? And just say, “Soothe and Smooth”. And “Soothe and Smooth”. And “Soothe and Smooth”. You can say it in funny voices, too. That helps. Good. Until you've colored in your whole hand with your sooth and smooth, and just notice how relaxing that was.
How does your heart feel after “Soothe and Smooth”? Yeah.
So I want to invite you today to try “Soothe and Smooth” throughout your day. You can do it anytime, anywhere, especially when those big feelings hit.
